I've been listening to a lot of Rock lately (mostly because it's my favorite music genre), and today my shuffled playlist played a song by skillet that although I listen to it regularly it sounded different. The song was playing with an overly loud bass today (thanks to my now trashed headphones). The beat and arrangement sounded hot as always, but the bass was mean... it was holding the song together; i was instantly cursed with an urge to find the information on the bass that was now the Excalibur of the song.
The song is "Hero" by Skillet:
Pretty awesome song; the female singer has a great voice for this sort of music and it adds up to the vocalist's (also bass player) hoarse like voice pretty well, bringing the style of the song out. All in all the band sounds great; it's one of the best Christian Rock bands around.
But I want to talk about the Bass that the vocalist (John Cooper) is using.
A Traben 5string Phoenix Bass Guitar
I don't know about you, but this bass guitar looks hot.
Taken from the Trabenbass website, the information for this guitar says:
They say the bass is easy to recognize visually and sonically and they're not lying. Traben basses trick is in the bridge (aside from the awesome looks).A timeless classic? The Phoenix is one of the land-mark, easy to recognize Traben designs. Easy to recognize visually and sonically, the Phoenix makes a HUGE statement. Flame inlays lapping up the neck and a brilliant chrome plated flame Bigger Bridge set the visual tone – “there is something big going down”….. With Traben’s larger body design coupled with massive bridge to body contact the Phoenix more than holds down the sonic end of the equation. Make a statement!
Traben basses have a unique custom look thanks to our distinctive bridge designs. While these are visually unique the real benefit is to the tone! These larger bridges are designed to provide added mass and additional bridge to body contact. You will hear the difference and even feel the difference from the added resonance in the body. Traben is proud to offer basses with bigger bridges and bigger tone.
The heavy sound is crisp, heavy but clear. I think I'm in love with these babies, and I'm pretty sure that if Santa Claus where a bass player, he would give this to himself for Christmas (I know I would). Note though that this is not a cheap bass; expect prices ranging from $400 to $750, but the quality pays for more than that.
This picture was on a site that's no longer active according to google images. I think this sloth was their mascot o.o poor thing couldn't compete against the Cheetos Cheetah... not surprising since sloth's are lazy as heck...
It seems totally worth it.
