I have some interesting information today. My new battery for the HTC G1 arrived today. The Stock battery for this phone lasted quite a bit, but last week the battery gave it's last goodbyes - after charging it for 12 hours, it only lasted 3 and something hours - I had to find a new one. So I bought an 1700mAh battery.
After searching around I found some interesting posts and products around the web; all of them talking about the following Battery.
The Extended Battery |
Now, don't get me wrong; this is a great battery - it offers Hours upon hours of full functioning. We are talking full wifi,gps,mp3 playing hours, but I don't like it. The downside is that the phone needs a bigger battery back cover, these batteries are too thick to fit on the original phone without getting a new lid. So normally they ship with a cover like the one in the picture. It has a little bump that makes the phone about half an inch thicker. I carry my phone on my front pocket... the extra plastic would feel uncomfortable when walking and I'm in constant movement when i'm on campus or just at the mall so I had to find an alternative.
I spent a bit more time and found a battery called: Standard 1700mAh HTC G1 Battery (the one in the initial picture of this post)
It looks just like the original, no extra weight and no need for a bigger backcover since the battery's the same size as the stock one. The difference was that the new battery gave me over 8 hours of full usage.
I use my mp3 and gps on the road while connected to an FM transmitter to listen to the music and directions on my radio so I can't really keep the phone connected to the car charger while using the GPS. After a 2 hour ride, the battery had 78% of the charge and after 5 hours at college the phone still had 54% of the charge, enough to give me another 2 hour ride back home with gps and mp3 music.
The battery only costs like $5 but it's totally worth it if you don't want to carry a secondary battery around; plus the fact that you don't need to alter the thickness of the phone to get some battery life is a huge plus.
