I have an HTC G1 android phone, which I use to test home-brew applications; but it was a risky move since the phone was also my main cell phone. Considering I semi-bricked my phone on a weekly basis I thought it would be best to just get another phone. Yesterday I dedicated my afternoon to finding a new cellphone. I could go for a contract since I was using a prepaid sim card; so once in the mall I had over 7 different places with 'ok' contract offers or cool phones.

My new phone - Optimus T |
In the end I ended up in Radio Shack - in front of the Tmobile booth, drooling over an android phone that bought me with the price -Free-. Needles to say, I came back home with an LG Optimus T android phone.
Here's the deal, T-Mobile offers the phone if you sign up for a 2 year contract and of course a minimum $10 for 200MB dataplan. The monthly cost added up to roughly $40 which is fine for me considering I was paying $50 in minutes and text with the prepaid plan.
For $40.00 you get the Optimus T, cousin of the Optimus S but sexier thanks to the clean Android 2.2 OS that comes installed.
The specs of the phone are not dull either, this is a pretty great phone considering it's free.
Specs from the net:
- Display: 3.2 inch LCD Color TFT capacitive touchscreen display, 320 x 480 pixels
- Memory: 150 MB + Expandable microSD up to 32 GB
- OS: Android OS 2.2
- Processor: 600 MHz Qualcomm MSM7627
- Camera: 3.2 megapixel camera with VGA video recording
- Connectivity: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
- Data: HSPA 7.2
- Bluetooth: Bluetooth 2.1
- GPS: GPS with A-GPS
- Battery: Li-Ion 1500 mAh
It's the best cheapest Android Phone around; the battery is only 1500mAh but it lasts longer than the one on my G1 thanks to the fact that it doesn't have the extra physical keyboard. The GPS Sets up pretty quickly and I haven't had any trouble with signal from tmobile.
Out of the box you get some free headphones (that act like an antenna for the FM Radio), a USB to micro USB cable, a USB charger and of course... the phone.
If you need more info about this awesome phone, then lets just compare it with the new "Android Benchmark" test - "Does it run Angry birds?"
Yes, yes it does; no lag at all.
So, if you're looking for a new phone; Think Android First - not only for the OS, but the fact that Android phones can evolve in features and has a very active community, so support is always present.
